We drink to survive, but alcohol poisons. It drowns the sorrows and fears, but it also lifts the spirits. Deadening pain, a dram relieves us from the depths of despairs.
The paradoxes of drink: some cultures criticise others for drunken, loutish behaviours; while many decree that it is forbidden completely.
A little is medicine – a drop a day keeps the doctor away. A lot can lead to crimes committed in order to feed the habits. Too much and we drunkenly stumble into our graves.
